Plant in a corner towards your background for stunning vertical texture.

As the name suggests, Giant Hairgrass (Eleocharis vivipara), grows TALL!

Expect 1 to 2 feet of growth!

Fortunately, Giant Hairgrass is just fine with some trimming to keep in manageable. It will propagate through lateral shoots underneath the substrate. You can also trim those to constrain it's size.

Would be perfect for an outdoor pond!

While Co2 is not needed, Giant Hairgrass does like higher light. At the bare minimum, I would not suggest floaters kept with this plant.

As most plants, Hairgrass will grow quickly in high-nutrient substrate, but it isn't strictly necessary for survival.

Care Parameters:

  • Medium to high light requirements
  • 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit
  • No special tank requirements
  • Quick, large growth
  • Minimal maintenance

Cassandra's notes:

This is a cool plant for an immersed biotope look. It'll grow out of the top of your aquarium! If it's happy, it will put out flowers for you.

As I like to keep real ecosystems in my aquariums, there’s always a chance of harmless hitchhikers like snails or dwarf shrimp tagging along with your plants!

I personally keep several beneficial snail species in my tanks, including Colorful Ramshorns, Bronze Bladder and Pond Snails, Mini Rams, and Malaysian Trumpet Snails. These snails stay relatively small, help clean the aquarium, and do not eat healthy plants or cause harm. However, if you’d rather avoid any hitchhikers, I highly recommend checking out our blog on how to safely disinfect aquarium plants before adding them to your tank:
How to Bleach Dip Aquarium Plants Safely

All plants are freshly snipped or harvested and packed right before shipment. I take great care in preparing every order and use methods that have consistently produced the best results over many years in the hobby. A lot of love goes into every package, so please don’t leave your plants sitting in a hot mailbox for too long 🙏

Thank you for looking, aqua friends! 💚
